If you know of a soccer coach that has a serious love for the shiny items in life, then this is one drive they’ll probably enjoy. It’s not exactly something for someone that prefers things to be a little more subtle, but sometimes you need a device that stands out in the crowd. This particular batch of shiny hides a tidy little flash drive within it for all of your much needed files.

The Jewel Whistle is described as elegant by the seller, but I wouldn’t exactly go that far. It is at least an eccentric USB drive that’ll double as a necklace. It holds 4GB worth of data on the drive. To get to it the whistle just pulls apart. The cap stays on the chain while the rest pops free. You can purchase one of them for $25 through Gadget4all.

Looking for a new netbook to tote around on your travels? You won’t be disappointed with HP’s offerings, despite many netbooks these days being the same within (and for some, without). After all, HP didn’t become to the top computer manufacturer in the world for no apparent reason. You can choose netbooks from different manufacturers, but we will look at what HP has to offer with their Mini 5103 netbook today. It tips the scales at just 2.64 pounds, but is more than capable of delivering the capability of a full-performance companion PC, targeting mobile professionals as well as K-12 and higher-education students. Underneath the hood, the HP Mini 5103 will support the latest dual core processor from Intel, the Atom N550. Of course, you can also opt for the Atom N455 and N475 processors, where all of them will be able to handle faster DDR3 memory for better performance.

Depending on your preference, you can choose from standard or touch-enabled models, and the HP Mini 5103 will also be accompanied by a sturdy, lightweight, anodized-aluminum display enclosure with a brushed, espresso-colored finish. Not only that, you can also opt for the handle to make transportation of the netbook a whole lot easier. You won’t find your fingers cramped either, simply because it is 95% the size of a full QWERTY keyboard alongside the addition of a touchpad that delivers an optimal experience for email, instant messaging and other text-driven applications. Nice to know the optional touchscreen display is also capable of handling a range of multitouch gestures, finger taps and swipes across the screen for more convenient navigation of applications, information and websites.

Other hardware specifications include a 10.1-inch diagonal LED display, a Broadcom HD video decoder card, the choice of a four-cell battery for lighter weight or optional six-cell battery for longer battery life, the HP DayStarter software program, and a range of other accessories. Prices start from $399 upwards.

This device on this car is probably the future of auto security as we know it.

Someone has gone to the trouble of installing an Eee PC 900A into the dash of this Volvo, and has gone to even more trouble to make the computer part of the automobile’s systems.

Not only does it have two pressure sesnors for boost and vacuum, but the computer displays the RPM, O2, and the exhaust directly. By the way, the user enters in a PIN number in order to start it.

I have included a video of it that you can see after the jump. Granted, the camera movement is shaky, and the narration reminds me of the show Dexter, but I like what he has done here.

In fact, I take back the Dexter comment, as you are no serial killer, but a complete genius. I think we all know that a PIN number could really do a lot to prevent car theft.

However, in the photo, it appears to be a woman doing some sort of strip tease. That is probably going to lead to an accident.

Well, we all know that cars and computers are going to get more and more “in tune” with each other. This particular DIY device is definitely the way to go, and I hope not to hear about any “surfing the net while driving” accidents.

Looks like getting decent certification does not only apply to us human beings (when it comes to work, professional qualifications, etc), but it also trickles down to the gadget world as well. We’re talking about the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab Android-powered tablet device that looks primed to go up against the iPad from Apple, but one advantage that this puppy has would having received DivX certification recently, making this the first of its kind to do so. With that certification, you can be guaranteed that the recently revealed Galaxy Tab will be able to handle DivX HD video playback with aplomb regardless of whether you are at home or on the go.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab will arrive on European doorsteps later this month, where it will hit their friends across the Atlantic as well as select countries in Asia after that. For those who are not in the know, the Samsung Galaxy Tab will feature a generous 7-inch TFT display that is capable of delivering an unrivaled screen quality for a better viewing experience. It is pretty lightweight as well, tipping the scales at just 0.84 pounds (380g), where you have a choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. Just in case that is not enough, you can always expand that further by another 32GB thanks to its microSD memory card slot.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab will come with Samsung’s own TouchWIZ user interface, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS support, rear and front facing cameras and doubles up as a cellphone as well. We don’t suppose considering the fact that it runs on Android, this could very well be a smartphone (albeit a very large one). Take that, iPad! Since it will be Android-powered, the Galaxy Tab can access various applications from Android Market where applicable. Hopefully the battery life of this thing is going to last at decent levels, since it would definitely be a bummer to view your favorite movie halfway only to have it die on you.

USB flash drives are dime a dozen, and we know that most of you already own more USB flash drives than you care via trade shows and conventions. Well, the company known as LaCie who has had plenty of experience when it comes to storage devices such as external hard drives has recently unveiled their latest model where USB flash drives are concerned – we’re talking about the LaCie MosKeyto. Nice word play on the mosquito bit, LaCie. This will be a super small flash drive that is anything but pesky, and it won’t carry diseases at all – only important data files. LaCie hopes that their MosKeyto will be able to up the ante for power, portability and ease of use.

Measuring less than 20mm while tipping the scales at 10 grams, the MosKeyto is one of the smallest USB flash drives that you can find in the market at the moment. After all, it will come in a variety of capacities, maxing out at 16GB (yeah, that’s not much by today’s standards but then again it is restricted by its size). Most folks will probably lift an eyebrow or two when you tell them that it totes 16GB worth of data within considering the size of this thing. Even better is the fact that the MosKeyto looks even non-existent whenever it is plugged into your computer’s USB port, and you can travel with it plugged in even when your notebook is in a protective sleeve or briefcase. After all, it lies flush against your notebook, so there is no worry about the port being affected in any way should the drive be knocked around or bumped. Another advantage would be not losing it at all.

The LaCie MosKeyto comes in a sleek black plastic build that lends an air of seriousness, and will also be equipped with a durable nylon strap to attach to an accessible key ring while a cap helps protect its USB connector. This means you will have nothing to worry about at all, as it blends into the background perfectly. Apart from that, LaCie will also integrate an additional 4GB secure online storage from Wuala into the MosKeyto, to make storage a whole lot more convenient. It will play nice with Windows, Mac and Linux platforms, and come in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities with prices starting from $17.99 upwards.

It’s funny how you can see something and it just so strongly reminds you of something else you’ve seen before, like this very subtle Golden Robot USB Drive that I just can’t seem to put my finger on. Every time I glance at it I just hear this annoying voice yammering off a bunch of ridiculous survival statistics. It’s just the strangest reaction. Clearly this robot is nothing more than a gold robot and that’s it.

Alright, so it’s obvious they were just trying to dodge having to give George Lucas some royalties by not coming out and calling this robot C-3PO. What’s odd is that this is actually a little nicer than some of the C-3PO toys I’ve spotted. By just skipping out on the facial features it makes this one look a little more well made. A lot of times if you don’t think you can do something right, by just skipping that entirely it makes things look a whole lot less cheesy. You can pick up the 4GB USB drive for $25 through Gadget4all.

We have reported on a lot of interesting tech that begins with the mirror, such as the interactive Magic Mirror. This system called EZFace uses both mirrors and augmented reality technology.

EZFace is powered by IBM technology. Simply put, EZFace allows customers to see what makeup looks like, without having to try it on for themselves.

It begins when a customer has their picture taken in a virtual mirror, which looks like nothing more than an ordinary webcam. The customer can then scan the barcode of the specific make-up product such as foundation, mascara, and eye shadow. The program takes into account the user’s eye color, skin tone, and lighting to make an image of what the product might look when put on the face.

No more having product samplers in front of a mirror. Granted, that is probably the best way to see if make-up really works, and I don’t know what kind of margin for error this program has. After all, the program might make the cosmetics look better than they actually do. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding.

Still, it is a step in the right direction for digital makeovers. EZFace is currently working on expanding this idea for hair. So now you can see what the style is going to look like before it is on your head for the next month or so.

Book lights are very handy for big time book lovers, but only every now and then. I don’t know of anyone that uses it on a daily basis. That often means that it gets forgotten in the bottom drawer and you leave it with a dead battery for far too long just due to not thinking of it. This Starlite USB Rechargeable Light has a little bit of an edge in that area. Not only does it function as a book light, but it’s also a desk lamp.

Sure, it’s not a large desk lamp, but when you’re not using it to clip onto your favorite book it can be used for small tasks. Plus, I absolutely love that it charges up through the USB port, because it means that you’re not stuck remembering to make a battery trip. Beyond that it’s a very basic light, but it has all the best features to make sure that you’ll get a whole lot of use out of it. You can pick one up for $25 through the MoMA Store.

It is also a very complex project that you can do at home. Granted, it requires a lot of technical know-how in order to solder the essential parts together, plus others that you will probably have to buy.

You can check on my Source if you would like to try your hand at this one. It is sort of out of my tech league.

Still, like like the idea of having a computer with a keyboard that types like an old-fashioned typewriter. I suppose that we have since abandoned the typewriter for a reason, but we took away a certain aesthetic that has now been replaced with cold and practical soft clicking keys.

This device here reminds me of the computer/typewriters seen on the futuristic businessman’s desks in the movie Brazil. Yeah, a lot of that film was a pretty bleak, but I liked how some of the technology had a sort of vintage look to it.

In other words, I wouldn’t mind having one of these on my desk, and wouldn’t mind surfing the web with it.

Looking for a new USB device to go along with your desktop? Well, you might want to consider the USB Battleship Hub then as this specially designed computer peripheral by Giffin’ Termeer for Kikkerland is more than capable of keeping your armory of flash drives connected to your computer, not to mention other USB devices and peripherals as well. Since the USB Battleship is hot off the oven, it isn’t available for order just yet. We could be looking at something that won’t break the $20 mark, but then again we guess in this capitalistic world, anything’s possible if there is adequate demand and not enough supply. Let’s hope you can keep up with the rest of the naval theme on your desk area after purchasing this to add some color and identity to your cubicle.
